Frequently Asked Questions

Q:
820 and 835 Supplementary Files - How do these compare with the 820 and 835?
A:

Please refer to the front matter of the 835 or 820 Companion Guide and Supplemental Companion Guide.

The standard transactions are payment advices that provide only limited information on pended claims and denials.

The Supplemental format provides more detail for these items, as well as state submitted adjustments and voids, retroactive rate adjustments, stop loss claims, and claims for which the rate code changed during adjudication.

Note that the Patient Control Number, Recipient ID, and Claim Reference Number are available on these reports.
