Welcome to the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Medicaid HIPAA Open Trading Partner Information Resource

(www.nyhipaadesk.com 1-800-343-9000)

NYS Medicaid is dedicated to providing pertinent information relating to the New York State Medicaid program. All health care providers are required to submit claims electronically. This includes all health plans including private and government programs, and health care clearinghouses. We urge the health care community to become familiar with the requirements affecting eMedNY. This site has been created for the provider community, and will be used by the NYS Medicaid program as a main source for dissemination of information and notification of all New York State Medicaid activities. This site will be updated on a regular basis in an effort to share relevant Medicaid information, its potential impact on our program and its potential impact on providers' business processes and information system. Whenever entering this site, be sure to check out our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) section. We have already posted answers to many of your most common and problematic questions. We will be continuing to post new questions and answers as they arise.

When entering this site, be sure to review NYHIPAADESK What's New for the latest changes.

Important Announcements back to top
    *** IMPORTANT NPI ANNOUNCEMENT ***
  • The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) will not be ready to implement the NPI system changes by May 23, 2008. As a result, NYS Medicaid Provider IDs and License Numbers will continue to be required for processing until the NPI system release is installed. This release is currently scheduled for September 1st, 2008.

Please note: In preparation for NPI, eMedNY has posted the 837 Companion Guides (CGs) as well as the 835. Other CGs, such as the 270 and 271, 276, 277, 278s, 835 Supplemental and NCPDP will be posted the first week of May 2008. At this time submitters can send the NPI in 837 claims, as long as the legacy IDs are also included. Since the other transactions cannot handle both identifiers (NPI and legacy), it is necessary to continue sending legacy IDs until September.

    *** ATTENTION INPATIENT PROVIDERS ***
  • As per a letter sent by the Department of Health (DOH) on January 23, 2008 to all Inpatient facilities in reference to Present On Admission (POA) reporting, CSC / eMedNY has updated the 837 Institutional Companion Guide (CG) and provided specifications for vendors and providers. Please download the CG at: 837 Institutional Companion Guide.

The POA project is scheduled for implementation in July 2008.
