Frequently Asked Questions

Q:
Code Checking - Can we tell if a medical or non-medical code is valid on a specific date?
A:

Non-medical code set values such as Patient Status Code must be valid on the Billing Date in the BHT segment.

Medical codes are considered to be valid if they were published before the Date of Service (in the 837 Dental and 837 Professional) or before the beginning Statement Date (in the 837 Institutional).
