Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Date Range - How should I report a date range?
A:

This depends on which 837 you are using. When reporting a date range on the 837 Institutional (such as for an inpatient span) use a Date Time Period Format Qualifier of RD8 .

Note, however that NYSDOH will not process date ranges on one line in the 837 Professional. Please refer to the 837P Companion Guide and Supplemental Companion Guide.

When a date range is reported with RD8 in the 837 Professional (such as for daily medications) the system will only store the first date.

When billing for daily professional services each daily service should appear as a separate line item.
