Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q:    Discharged Patient to Hospital - What is required when billing on the 837 Institutional?
A:

For Inpatients that are discharged with status code 02, Discharged/Transferred to another short-term general hospital for inpatient care, the practitioner who authorized the discharge is to be identified in the Other Provider Name loop (loop 2310C). Because this practitioner will always be a Physician, their NPI must have been reported to NYSODH. This can be accomplished by using the Facility Affiliated Practitioner application available at eMedNY.org.
