Yes, NYS Medicaid is currently capable of accepting the NPI in 837 (claim) transactions.  However, it is imperative that you also include the MMIS Provider ID in the transactions until further notice.  It is anticipated that there will be a short period after implementation during which providers will be allowed to submit both the NPI and MMIS Provider ID to give providers sufficient time for testing NPI based transactions.
